Junior Cycle Business
Junior Cycle Business aims to help students become enterprising, financially literate, ethically aware and confident decision makers, capable of engaging positively with the business world and society. It develops skills, knowledge, attitudes and behaviours that allow them to make informed decisions with all the resources available to them.

There are 8 key skills that students will develop over the 3 years studying Business Studies:

  1. Managing Myself
  2. Staying Well
  3. Communicating
  4. Being Creative
  5. Working with Others
  6. Managing Information & Thinking
  7. Being Literate
  8. Being Numerate

Junior Cycle Business helps students to understand how the business world and the economy work, while developing practical skills for everyday life, further study and work.
3 strands:
(1) Personal Finance
(2) Enterprise
(3) Economy

Assessment:
 2 Classroom Based Assessments (1 in 2nd year and 1 in 3rd year)
 Assessment task (10%) which takes place in third year.
 Written State exam in June of third year (90%).

Leaving Certificate Business (new course Introduced September 2025)
The new Leaving Certificate Business course, introduced in 2025, helps students understand the world of Business, enterprise and economics whicle developing skills for life, further education and the workplace. The course focuses on how businesses operate in a changing environment with an emphasis on ethical decision making, sustainability, innovation and digital skills.
Students will learn through real-world case studies, active learning and applied tasks that develop many skills.

Assessment combines different approaches to support student learning:
 Business Alice Investigative Study (Project) 40% of the overall marks.
This project is accessed externally by the SEC.
 Final exam in June of 6th year.
