LCVP

LCVP is a Leaving Certificate subject which can be taken up by students in 5th year.  It is an extra subject which the students can opt to take on and a maximum of 66 points can be gained by taking up this subject. The LCVP combines the academic strengths of the Leaving Certificate (established) with a new and dynamic focus on self–directed learning, innovation and enterprise. The LCVP (Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme) Link Modules programme was introduced in 1994. The primary goal of the LCVP is to prepare young people for adult life. Students develop a number of skills over the 2 years. It is a 2 year programme.

Students who take up this subject gain valuable learning for life experiences which will benefit them in the future.

Throughout the programme students are encouraged to:

  • Be enterprising & innovative
  • Work as part of a team
  • Use ICT
  • Investigate career paths
  • Take responsibility for their own learning
  • Evaluate data
  • Investigate local businesses & Voluntary Org.
  • Communicate with others
  • Investigate Community enterprises
  • Organise activities

Divided into 2 areas

Portfolio – 60% of all marks to be completed by February/March in 6th Year.

Theory –  40% of all marks  – Exam in May (1st Wednesday in May) of Leaving Certificate year.

Theory        

Must complete 2 theory modules over the 2 years:

  • Preparation for the world of work.
  • Enterprise Education.

Theory exam – 2.5 Hours – May of Leaving Certificate year.

40% of all marks consisting of:

  • Section A – Audio Visual
  • Section B – Case Study (received in advance by students)
  • Section C – General Questions (4 out of 6)

Grades from 2017 onwards:

Distinction – 66 CAO Points – Now 66        (80% to 100%)

Merit – 46 CAO Points – Now 46                   (65% to 79%)

Pass – 28 CAO Points – Now 28                     (50% to 64%)
